You look out from your eyes, you listen out from your ears; but someone or something inside is ultimately receiving the visual and auditory messages, the sensations coming from your body and from within your body.
The work of an enlightenment guide is to enter into your virtual reality world of beliefs and assumptions which you have projected onto the world and onto yourself, and bring you across the sea of samsara (illusion), back to yourself.
