The spiritual student/teacher relationship is a temporary one.
It can be considered like the external husk of a pupa, a larva. It is akin to when the caterpillar forms a protective shell around itself so what’s inside can incubate and become a winged insect.
In a similar way, the student/teacher, seeker/guide relationship is a protective space in which you can grow your spiritual wings — useful only until the day you fly away.
